Kanji (漢字, かんじ, Çin Harfi anlamında): Çince yazı karakterlerine Japonca'da verilen isim. Japonca'ya Çince yazının gelişi üzerine farklı teoriler varsa da en kabul göreni 5. yy'da Budist rahipler tarafından getirilen Çince yazılı Budizm metinleri ile geldiği şeklindedir.
