Julia Kristiva, 24 Haziran 1941 Bulgaristan-Sliwen’de doğdu. Edebiyat teorisyeni, psikanalizci, yazar ve filozof. 1965’ten beri Fransa’da Paris’te yaşamakta ve çalışmlarını esas olarak burada yürütmektedir. 1970'li yıllardan itibaren çağdaş aydınların en saygın isimlerinden biri olmanın yanı sıra, eleştirel felsefenin de en önemli dayanaklarından birisi olmuştur. 1973 yılından beri Denis Diderot Üniveristesi’de profesör olarak kürsüye sahiptir.
