  Alman besteci ve yazar. 22 Mayýs 1813’te Leipzig’te doðdu ve 13 Þubat 1883’te Venedik’te öldü. Babasýný küçük yaþta kaybetti. On yaþýnda Yunan târihine çalýþtýrýldý ve Yunan trajedisini öðrendi. Daha sonra müziðe karþý ilgisi arttý. 1830’da hazýrladýðý uvertürü Leipzig Operasýnda sahneye konulduðu vakit daha 16 yaþýndaydý. Üniversite eðitimi sýrasýnda ünlü müzik öðretmeni Weinlig’ten ders aldý. Tamâmen kendisini müziðe vererek Magdeburg Orkestrasý Þefliðine tâyin edildi.
