Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826) Amerika'nın Virginia eyaletinin Shadwell şehrinde iyi bir ailenin oğlu olarak 1743 yılında dünyaya gelen Jefferson, ABD'nin bağımsızlık önderlerinden biridir. Avukatlık ve hakimlik yaptığı dönemde din özgürlüğünün tanınması, köleliğin kaldırılması, mirasın çocuklara eşit dağıtılması, devlet okulları açılması ve ceza yasalarının yumuşatılması için mücadele etti.
