İngiliz asıllı her ikisi de akademik olarak bilimle uğraşan anne ve babadan Saskatchewan, Kanada`da doğmuştur. Çocukluk ve gençlik yıllarında çoğunluğu deniz seyahati olmak üzere pek çok yeri görme imkanına kavuşmuştur. İngiltere`de Bristol Üniversitesinde Eski dönem Akdeniz ile ilgili çalışmalarından dolayı ödül ve derce almıştır. Cambridge Üniversitesinde arkeoloji doktorasını tamamlamıştır.
Scuba dalışlarına 15 yaşından itibaren başlamış ve pek çok batığın araştırılmasında yer almıştır. Ekibi ile beraber 1999-2000 yıllarında Türkiye civarında bulunan 5. yüzyıla ait bir geminin keşfinde yer almıştır.
Eğitim ve akademik hayatı sonrası yazarlık serüveni başlamış ve İngiltere`de 2005 yılında yayınlanan Atlantis kitabı 28 dile çevrilerek yarım milyonun üstünde satış rakamına ulaşmıştır. İkinci kitabı Crusader Gold ise 2006 Haziranında okurlarla buluşmuştur.
