Skorpion vz. 61, 7.65mm çapında, 1959' da Miroslav Rybář (1924–1970) tarafından geliştirilen ve Samopal vzor 61 (1961 Model Hafif Makinalı Silah) resmi adı altında Çek Cumhuriyeti' nin Uherský Brod kasabasında bulunan Česká zbrojovka silah fabrikası tarafından üretilen bir Çekoslovak silahıdır. Bu model, yaylı kovan çıkartıcısı, sürgü tepesine içinden sabitlenerek düzenlenmiş, silah çerçevesinden çift çıkartıcılı özelliktedir. Sürgü nispeten hafif olduğundan, Skorpion' un ağaç tabanca kabzesi içine yerleştirilmiş atım hızını dakikada 1.000 fişekten daha kolay idare edilebilir 850 fişek adedine düşüren bir atalet oranı düşürücü aparat kullanır. Oran azaltıcının çalışma biçimi şu şekildedir: Sürgü geriye doğru sona ulaştığında durma yerine çarpar ve arka tabakaya monte edilmiş yaylı çengel tarafından yakalanır. Silahın horoz ateşlemeli ve üç farklı ayardan oluşan ateşleme modu seçimli (fişek yatağının sol yanında ve kabzenin üstünde yerleştirilmiş) bir tetik mekanizması bulunmaktadır. İki tip çift sütunlu şarjör kutusu ile kullanılır. Kısa olan 10 fişeklik şarjör (dolu ağırlık—0.15kg) alır. Diğeri ise 20 fişek kapasiteli uzun (dolu ağırlık—0.25kg) şarjördür. Son fişek şarjörü terk ettiğinde sürgü yeni takılacak şarjörün fişeğine açık ve geride tutulmuş halde kalır. Kurma kolu (dolu şarjör takıldığında) geriye kaydırılarak çekilmek suretiyle gerideki sürgü ileriye gönderilebilir. Bu şekilde silah yeniden atışa hazır hale gelir. Merminin hızı 320 m/sn. (vz. 61, vz. 61 E, vz. 82) - vz 83 modelinde 292 m/sn' dir.

Gez

Skorpion, 75 ve 150 m. çentik aralığında ileriye ve geriye doğru çevrilerek mekanik olarak ayarlanabilen açık tip demir gez ve omuz desteği için katlanabilir bir metal tel dipçik ile uyumlandırılmıştır. Tel dipçik kaldırıldığında silahın üzerine oturtulur ve buraya kilitlenir.
