ABD'nin önde gelen eğitim kurumlarından Harvard Üniversitesi'nde fizik eğitimi aldıktan sonra bilim tarihi ve bilim felsefesi üzerinde çalışmalarda bulundu. Berkeley, Princeton ve MIT üniversitelerinde öğretim üyesi oldu.
Kuhn'un en önemli yapıtı "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" adlı kitabıdır.
